Our Stay at Momo Beach House!
During our visit to the Philippines in October 2016 we had an amazing time at the Momo Beach House. Let me tell you how! Earlier that month, Greg and I had the pleasure to represent the Slow Spirit team at the TBEX Asia and we had a magnificent experience. Not only did we do a ton of networking, we also made great friends, learned a lot about the world of blogging and made some pretty great partnerships. One of the opportunities we got via speed networking was a chance to stay at the Momo Beach House in Panglao Island.
The Momo Beach House is part of the One-Of Collection, a fast growing boutique hotel group with properties in Dumaguete (Negros), Coron (Palawan) and Panglao (Bohol). We visited two of the hotels: The Amorita Hotel, where we had a refreshing afternoon by the pool, while we admired the stunning views of Alona Beach and a two night stay at the Momo Beach House. A lovely seafront rustic style property, with great environmental initiatives and a slow travel vibe.
The hotel is located in a very quiet part of Panglao Island, by the Momo Beach, a lovely tranquil place with several spots for snorkeling and in an area where most of the neighbours are locals. Finding it was not an issue as transport was provided from the Tagbilaran Port where we arrived. It took us around 30 minutes to get there and the last 10 minutes of the drive were along a dirt road, where cute road signs indicated we were arriving.
Being quite remotely located and not being a huge hotel allows the staff to give a very personal service, which I must say it is what impressed me the most about the place. On arrival we were greeted by all members of the staff and there was also a lovely blackboard with a little message welcoming us “home”. That is it, I honestly felt at home there. We all had a brief chat at reception, followed by a walk around the hotel before we were directed to our room.
The hotel offered great facilities. As if the beach at your doorstep wasn’t enough, they have a really nice swimming pool, kayaks, snorkeling gear, beach volleyball gear, yoga mats and stand-up boards available. A lovely open plan space used as a communal area, bar and restaurant which allows for guests to interact. They also provide upon request private meals by the beach, a real treat if you are on a romantic getaway.
Food & Drinks
The hotel offers an all day menu, with simple, yet super tasty local dishes and some western options too. My favourite part was the breakfast, which we preordered the night before with the option of even deciding the time we wanted it — by far my best breakfast in the Philippines. During our visit we also had the pleasure of meeting the Executive chef, who mentioned a new menu was on the way. The bar offered a number of cocktails and some delicious local fruit shakes, I got to try the Peanut Kisses, made with traditional peanut biscuits from the Island of Bohol.
Our room was super spacious and once again that homey feeling was in the air. The attention to details with personal messages and treats left for us warmed our hearts, but what really won us over though were the eco-friendly details. From filtered water in reusable glass bottles to the homemade natural toiletries made with local ingredients and the booklet with tips on what to do around Momo Beach.
I know I have mentioned the service already, but having worked in hospitality for so long I appreciate very much when I get an exceptional service, and I must say we were taken care of extremely well. After finding out from other guests that we had recently got married, the staff went on to prepare a wonderful candle lit dinner on our last night there. What a surprise, there is no need to say how much we loved it!
If you are planning a visit to the Philippines and Panglao Island is a place you have in mind, I suggest you check out Momo Beach House. I know fore sure I will be coming back for a visit!
A special thanks to all the staff (Eva and Casie), specially Cindy who looked after us so impeccably and Lydia who kindly offered the opportunity.
The Momo Beach House kindly offered us a complimentary stay but in no way has it influenced any of the above and all opinions and thoughts are our own.
