5 Reasons to Travel to Thailand Right Now
Before coming to Thailand I had this preconceived idea that it would be chaos, with crowds of people everywhere, lots of traffic, bad roads and general bad infrastructure. I can’t stress enough just how wrong I was. I was impressed with how well developed the country actually is, with fast internet available everywhere, a good public transport system and all the roads are actually tarmaced. In South America I got used to getting on a bus which claimed to take 10 hours and would actually take 16. Here if you’re meant to get somewhere in 10 hours then you’ll get there in 10 hours. Amazing.
It’s the Low season
Right now is just after the monsoon period but is still considered low season up until the beginning of November meaning there is beautiful weather but hardly any tourists and prices are even cheaper. It’s a win win situation.
I came to Thailand knowing nothing about the Thai language and worrying that this would really impair communicating with the locals. However, nearly everyone speaks if not fluent English then at least the basics and most signs are written in both Thai and English. I have also found that if someone doesn’t speak English then they are so friendly that they will still try to help. So if the language barrier is putting you off from travelling to Thailand then don’t let it.
It’s ridiculously cheap
At the moment I am paying £3.62 a night for a private double room in a lovely little hostel. The beach is a 5 minute walk away and at night all I can hear are the sounds of the jungle. Yesterday I paid 20 pence for coconut ice cream and a main meal will set you back about £2 max. As I said, ridiculously cheap.
I can’t talk about why to come Thailand without mentioning its outstanding natural beauty. With its long stretches of white sandy beaches, its luscious jungle and its iconic jagged rocks which rise up seemingly out of nowhere from the sea you really can’t go wrong.
